Lights Out! Escape Rooms and Social Lounge located on the first floor of the Woodlawn shopping center at 1500 W. Littleton Boulevard opened March 30. A growing phenomenon throughout the world, escape rooms originated in Japan in 2008. Based on video adventure games, escape rooms test wits in a race against time. To play the game, a group of people are locked in a room with 60 minutes to solve puzzles and find clues leading to the key which opens the door to freedom. Often used for team building exercises, escape rooms involve teamwork, communication, and delegation as well as critical thinking, attention to detail, and lateral thinking.
Lights Out! Escape Rooms and Social Lounge has a horror theme owners Justin and Pam Goodchild characterize as ‘horror flair without the scare’. The space features two rooms set up for competitive games between groups and three additional, uniquely-themed rooms for individual group play. Wine, beer, pizza, and snacks are served in ‘The Sanctuary’ social lounge, a laid back environment stocked with board games and puzzles for groups to enjoy before and after the game. Coming soon is food from Harleys, A Hot Dog Revolution. The reception area features an art gallery of original pieces based on iconic horror films by North Carolina artist Jim Ferguson. Prints of the artwork in varying sizes are available for sale. Open every day except Monday, ages 16 and up are welcome to participate in the escape rooms until 9 pm. After that, admission is limited to those 21 and over.
